Dr. Pamela Rueda Cediel, Postdoctoral fellow
I am a quantitative ecologist with experience in multivariate statistics and the development of demographic models applied to the management of invasive species and the conservation of species facing anthropogenic-driven declines. As an ecologist, I am interested in addressing current global conservation issues (e.g., invasive species, chemical contaminants, biodiversity loss and climate change) by understanding population dynamics and applying that knowledge either in the application of sustainable agricultural practices or in the conservation of wild species, both in the face of climate change. Currently, I am optimizing management strategies for the invasive Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata). Specifically, I parameterize computer simulations with empirical data and mathematical functions evaluate the best timing to treat the pest and avoid outbreaks.
Dr. Slava Rybnikov, Postdoctoral fellow
I obtained my BSc and MSc in ecology and environmental protection from the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (Kyiv, Ukraine). During my PhD and postdoc studies at the University of Haifa, I modeled the evolution of recombination and mating strategies under different ecological scenarios with a focus on the plasticity of these variation-affecting traits. Currently, I am working on finding optimal strategies for combining traditional biocontrol methods with gene-drive deployment. This is within a joint project with DR. Gili Greenbaum.
Dr. Soumitra Pal, Postdoctoral fellow
Soumitra Pal has joined as a postdoctoral fellow from July, 2024. He has earned his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Mathematics and Ph.D. from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India. His doctoral research delved into the dynamics of predator-prey systems incorporating the impact of fear and various behavioral traits, through mathematical modeling. Currently, his research focuses on devising cost-effective strategies for managing harmful invasive species, aiming to develop optimal methods to control and suppress their spread.
Ayana Neta, Ph.D. student
A joint student with Efrat and Shai Morin. Born and raised in the agricultural region of the Northern Negev, in Kibbutz Be'eri. Attended the High School of Environmental Studies in Sde Boker. Completed my Bsc & Msc in the Faculty of Agriculture, Hebrew University of Jerusalem. My research is focused on developing decision support systems for farmers and policy makers in the field of sustainable pest management.
Hagar Yasour, M.Sc. student
I obtained my BSc in Environmental Economics and Management from the Faculty of Agriculture at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. I am interested in tackling environmental challenges through the application of economics and mathematical models. Currently, my thesis focuses on finding optimal strategies to manage and contain the spread of invasive species.
